In the south side of Patmos isle, at the Stavros area, is located since many years ago a small traditional shipyard – one of the very few remained in our country – which is involved in traditional boat construction. The persistence and a very strong passion is hiding behind the designing and the construction of some unique wooden boats, which they carry the Kamitsis family signature and the spirit of quality against the easiness of modern times. It’s exactly the same passion that led Kamitsi's family to set up an atmospheric area for refreshment and dining in the middle of the shipyard, with an initial goal to serve the needs of the customers and its employees. However, the uniqueness of the area combined with the delicious flavors and the traditional delicacies, quickly brought the café - restaurant "Tarsanas" among the top choices of the island visitors and the locals too. The "Tarsanas" café -restaurant became the meeting point of a very bizarre and colorful company, made up of anonymous and famous Greeks and foreigners and very often you can meet in the same gathering, traditional captains with intellectuals and artists of international stature together. Irini and Caterina with their cooking temperament and their tasty creations complete the delight and invite you to enjoy the experience. They manage to combine in their dishes, aesthetics, tradition and light gastronomy with such a unique way. The traditional greek cuisine has the first word and what makes the difference is the fresh and most of all the local ingredients. The goat and cheese from Levetha isle, the seafood from the crystal waters of Patmos and the nearby islands and also the everyday collected vegetables are only a few to refer. The dishes on the menu are changing in regularly basis in order to give a fresh tone, even to frequent visitors. The elegant presentation of the dishes surprises pleasantly and even creates a contrast against the authentic atmosphere of the shipyard, which undoubtedly contributes to this whole “surreal” Aegean scene. The sea, which almost reaches the hull of the boat-veranda of “Tarsanas” is the finishing touch, along with the unexpected interesting musical choises of Sozon - the man who is mostly behind all of this - and whose choises vary, depending on the mood, from classical music to light jazz or pop and from greek traditional to modern sounds.
