Beautiful, craggy Folegandros is steeped in a joyous celebratory spirit on the feasts of Ayios Pandeleimonas on July 27, Christ on August 6, and the Panayia on August 15. The island also hosts several other smaller, less formal folk festivals throughout the year featuring talented local musicians—a delightful treat for visitors who happen upon these events. In July, the Folegandros Festival unfolds from the narrow lanes of Hora, the capital, and Kastro down to the port of Karavostasi and Ano Meria with theater performances, screenings, and concerts of classical and Greek music. And, in summer, the full moon is an occasion for hosting poetry or dramatic readings and recitals at the Ano Meria Folklore Museum.
