A Few Words
“Masasoura” Restaurant which is situated in the village of Maritsa, Rhodes, opened more than 23 years ago. Since then with reverence to their loyal customers this family run business has been striving to retain the quality and diversification of the”Aegean Cuisine”. The wonderful atmosphere, in a traditional setting, together with the superb service and food have established this restaurant as a culinary delight. “Masasoura” which literally translates to chew (masa) and drink (soura) – opened with the aim of exhibiting a traditional old building dating from 1932. The walls are made from hand carved stone which was typical for that period and the interior boasts high ceilings and original features such as the classic wooden entrance door. The restaurant is located in the centre of Maritsa, a village buzzing with life where the heart of the community is the village square. Situated inland approximately 19 kilometres from Rhodes town, the atmosphere in Maritsa is always very vibrant: the villagers are renowned across the island for their love of good food and late nights, their community spirit and traditional local festivals. With its picturesque buildings set in beautiful mountain landscape, visitors are filled with awe at its charm and vivacity especially at night when the sun sets and the village comes alive. Since 1995 through until the present day “Masasoura” has served not only locals but also Rhodians and customers from all over Greece together with countless visitors from abroad. Over the years, both famous and ordinary people have dined here, friendships have been made and have endured, and we have been honoured with many compliments, congratulations and praise for the running of our restaurant and the delicious cuisine. Our venue has an inside seating area decorated in traditional style and a delightful outside veranda where friends gather under the pergola to savour delicious home-made mezedes whilst watching life pass by in the village square. The kitchen is fully equipped to health and safety standards and we strive to stay as environmentally friendly as possible. We are proud of the fact that we modernize the facilities annually and attempt to update our extensive menu on a regular basis. Our aim is to promote the healthy Aegean cuisine of Rhodes by adding our very own creative touches to traditional well-established Greek dishes. We endeavour to use local products from local farmers and small businesses in the area such as olive oil, bread, vegetables and meat. We also stock local drinks such as wines and souma, a traditional drink made from figs. The village also produces seasonal cheeses which we incorporate in our menu to add a touch of the Aegean. In this way we support the locals and at the same time create fantastic results. We truly believe that our continual success has been due to the loyalty of our customers who have remained with us over the years. “Masasoura” Resaurant is an experience in culinary delight not to be missed and is well worth a visit whether you are a local or visitor to this wonderful island.
