A Few Words
Undoubtedly one of the most famous areas on the island, the Valley of Petaloudes lies about 25km south from the capital city of Rhodes in the direction of the airport, close to Kalamonas village in the municipality of Petaloudes. The Valley of Petaloudes (meaning “butterflies” in Greek) takes its name from the thousands of butterflies which fill the valley every year in the summer period between June 10th and September 20th, covering the entire landscape, trees and rocks in a truly unique spectacle. A place of natural beauty which offers a refuge of tranquility, creating a small paradise in which the visitor can experience the once-in-a-lifetime blend of authentic gastronomy in a scenic enviroment. Our traditional taverna “Petaloudes”, operating since 1948, can be found at the entrance of the valley, opposite the Natural History Museum. Our restaurant is renowned for its exquisite moussaka and pasta dishes, which are prepared in the wood oven in the traditional style. We use extra virgin olive oil of our own production and our ingredients are always fresh and locally sourced. Enjoy a meal, coffee or refreshment while relaxing in the unique setting of Petaloudes Valley. The Natural History Museum of Petaloudes offers the visitor a display of mounted local butterflies as well as other preserved animals, plants and minerals from the region. An educational visit suitable for all ages which will make your trip a journey to remember. APRIL-OCTOBER 08:00-SUNSET
